[Yum] Yum times out: Socket error 4, and 256

Try looking through the yum.conf man page. There is a 'timeout' setting
you can put in /etc/yum.conf. Not sure if that's what you want or need
but worth a try. i.e. timeout=N # N being a number in secs.
