gftp freezes too - but it restarts the download automatically at the
same spot it left off after a short delay. I don't have to restart from
scratch each time.
A (final) follow-up to this thread. After an unbelievable amount of
work, I finally convinced my local Telco to put me on DSL. So I'm no
longer connected to the internet via DirecPC one-way satellite service.
That's the only difference - the gateway on my LAN goes somewhere new
and there have been no changes at all to my Linux boxes.
Yum now does huge updates flawlessly ! This is good. It also suggests
some sort of Yum issue handling some sort of socket error / lost packet
/ timeout situation on flakey networks rather than a specific problem
with my machines or setup ?
