[Yum] yum hangs

Well, I used yum to upgrade from FC2 to FC3 and everything went 
flawlessly. I've booted into FC3, it was all going very smoothly. Then I 
started to remove some gnome packages that I don't use (I run XFCE) and 
suddenly yum hangs on every command.

For example:
# yum remove kernel-2.6.9-1.3_FC2
Repository updates-released already added, not adding again
Repository base already added, not adding again
Setting up Remove Process

That's where it hangs.

Here's another example:
# yum list updates
Repository updates-released already added, not adding again
Repository base already added, not adding again
Setting up Repo:  base

Any suggestions on how to track down the problem? Thanks in advance.
