[Yum] upgrading to new redhat release

Hi,

To upgrade from say 7.X to 8/9 is the best tactic just to 
upgrade the redhat-release package by hand and then rely on 
$releasever in yum.conf which I have.

Is there anything magic I can add on the command line to overide 
the value $releasever obtained from the redhat-release package allowing
me to miss that first step before running yum upgrade?
