 In some ways it seems really weird to have the progress objects be
different among the objects anyway ... what happens when that happens?
 Not sure if it's better to create groups of downloads based on the
progress_obj value, or to just set it to none if they aren't all
identical (the last is probably much easier, but will be a PITA to debug
every now and again).
