[Yum-devel] clean up sooner

I got bitten today by massive FC5 rawhide update. Because of a kernel bug,
gcj-dbtool hung when trying to update. I had to kill yum. Afterwards, I
could not restart yum due to dep problems. I tracked this down to having a
bunch of duplicate versions left.

I noticed when using smart-pm for update, that it does:

install x
clean x
install y
clean y

I wonder if yum would avoid some problems by cleaning old packages sooner?
(I'm just guessing here that smart 'clean' means removing old package).
