Sorry, I was missing the part where you are concerned about the
comps.xml and groups.xml file, eh?

For that, I guess you are right that you will need to do a big "hey
everybody please do an update on Wednesday afternoon" and force your
old clients to 2.6 and then switch over the repository.

You could also put a new directory in your 2.6 conf file so that the
2.2/2.4 clients point at one directory which has the old style
information in it with the only update being moving yum to 2.6 and the
2.6 people get all the new updates.
