Add kernel-default-base to your installonlypkgs config item in yum.conf. I
have a rather extensive list of kernel rpms used on various distros in mine.

installonlypkgs=kernel, kernel-smp, kernel-bigmem, kernel-enterprise,
kernel-debug, kernel-unsupported, kernel-hugemem, kernel-default,
kernel-largesmp, kernel-pae, kernel-xen, kernel-xenpae, kernel-xenU,
kernel-vmi, kernel-vmipae, kernel-vmibase, kernel-xen-base,
kernel-smp-unsupported, kernel-pae-base, kernel-PAE, kernel-default-base
