[Yum] error downloading yum source code

I tried git clone git://yum.baseurl.org/yum.git but got the following
DNS error :

fatal: Unable to look up yum.baseurl.org (port 9418) (Name or service not known)

I am behind an http proxy and thus used the http:// service to use the
git repository (I found that after some googling).

Should I use some other method behind an http proxy/ Please suggest.
