[Yum] rpm install failing due to dependencies

The issues that I am having is yum fails with:
firstboot 1.3.39-6.centos4   requires /usr/bin/python2
system-config-date 1.7.15-0.RHEL4.3   requires /usr/bin/python2

and the list goes on and on, complaining about /usr/bin/python2 or 
/usr/bin/python
The rpm I created doesn't contain either, only /usr/bin/python2.5. So a 
rpm-i or rpm -Uvh both work, but yum install or up2date fail.
