[Yum] "yum install" removes the old version of the package

It's not removing it. It's updating it since you already have it
installed. For the majority of packages, you don't want multiple
versions. If you read through the manpage of yum.conf, you'll see
installonlypkgs. This tells yum to install packages instead of
updating them.
