[Yum] createrepo issues

I am running create repo on a dir like

centos/4.2/updates/ that containts RPMS dir with all the updates in it.

now when i run createrepo centos/4.2/updates/ it generates the
repodata dir but everything is such a small filesize

  4 -rw-r--r--    1 root     root          156 Mar  8 12:00 filelists.xml.gz
   4 -rw-r--r--    1 root     root          151 Mar  8 12:00 other.xml.gz
   4 -rw-r--r--    1 root     root          163 Mar  8 12:00 primary.xml.gz
   4 -rw-r--r--    1 root     root          951 Mar  8 12:00 repomd.xml

yum-2.2.2-1
createrepo-0.4.2-1

I'm also using python 2.2

any help or tips?
