This is an interesting point...

Is there an error condition - or set of conditions - under which yum should say:

"Hey user - your rpm database is probably borked, do you want me to
try to repair it: [Yes/No]:"

And then take the steps mentioned in that article on

??

Of course the question of why RPM hasn't been fixed to automatically
detect this condition and rebuild the indexes is one best left to the
philosophers.  :)  After all, this problem has been biting people in the
butt for over a year now.
