[Yum] [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-2, 'Name or service not known')>

I'm getting lots of these errors

http://wwwin-kickstart/yum/4.31/cisco-linux-common/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-2, 'Name or service not known')>
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from cisco-linux-common: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

I'm not using mirrors at all, so I understand the last line.  But what
could be the cause of the first error be?  I go to each machine with
this problem, and I have no problem running these same commands,
resolving wwwin-kickstart, etc.  Can this error mean more than just DNS
errors?
