One more thing... after the install, look for files (mostly in /etc) that were tweaked by rpm.  They'll end in .rpmsave or .rpmorig or .rpmnew.  In particular, I had to copy the relevant lines from /etc/auto.master.rpmsave to /etc/auto.master (and the same with /etc/auto.misc) for my usb devices to work.
