[Yum] Maintaining yum repositories

I do the same thing. There is something to be said for having a machine
go from zero to fully patched and configured in around 10 min. Once my
machines are built I rely on yum to keep them patched and to push out
new packages to groups of machines, but by merging updates into a the
base install I can save quite a bit of time (especially true for
distributions like RH 7.3 where there are a ton of patches...).

Plus installing the originals then upgrading (via yum) will cause the builds to take longer too. I manage a large number of machines and need all the security and time savings I can get. :)
