I agree with you about rhc-packages being a nice but limited interface.

I am looking at starting a new branch based on -packages, but bringing
over the features that I like from my synaptic port.

I've tried on and off to install redcarpet on my rh7.0 upgraded to rh7.3
upgraded to rh9 updgaded to fc1 box and have gotten no love.

I'll look into it again!
