[Yum] Proxy Support for YUM

According to the man page for yum there is some proxy support:

       Proxy configuration
              If  you  would like to use a proxy with yum you can simply set a
              shell environment variable of http_proxy. Set it to the url  for
              your proxy.  Ex: "http://your_proxy:port/"

My proxy requires a username and a password. Will yum work with my proxy or will there need to be
some sort of coding required to update yum ?
