[Yum] Fresh OS Install - YUM errors?

Due to the compliments I have been hearing about yum, I am trying to make
yum work for me.  It is not going so well.  Switching out URL's for the
base and updates in the yum.conf file I can make different things happen.
None quite right.  However is what happens using the original files:


After many lines of:
      "getting  /var/cache/yum/base/headers/....."
I get :
      "IOError: [Errno 104] Connection reset by peer
      "URL:
http://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog/yum/3.0/RPMS.main/headers/rarpd-0-ss981107-12.ppc.hdr"

Can anyone explain this
