okay, I misread this entirely.

on the one hand, yes, it's a good patch to commit
on the other hand, Matt has a point - syslog support obviates that.

I'll commit it and it may just vanish when we syslog comes in.

if you wanna work on syslog support instead I'd be happy to see those
patches.
