  Use different namespaces for those non-standard tags.
No need to subclass, either you understand the semantic associated to
and item or not. Most of the tags will be in the general namespace.
Extra semantic or functionalities not defined as part of the
spec will have to be flagged with associated namespace.

  yes in rev2, once rev1 has proved successful and used for a couple of
years !
  Conentrate on the core set of informations everybody shares, and 
anything else is at the moment out of scope, the only provision
needed is to say that elements and attributes outside the namespace
defined by the spec can be ignored.
